Over 30 years ago five brothers from France founded the now famous company Ubisoft in 1986, one brother called Yves Guillemot made deals with several game developers to distribute video games in France for the French gaming market. He now manages all Ubisoft game branches and employees in 29 studios in 19 countries. From seeing him at E3 I would say that he is very passionate and dedicated to providing young and old gamers with great gaming experiences.
The first game that Ubisoft ever made was one year after the company was found by the CEO Yves Guillemot. The game was called Zombie and made for a PC based system known as the CPC. The game was a first person horror game based heavily on the film Dawn Of The Dead by George A Romero. This is the first game that Ubisoft also published alongside making the game. In 1995 one young game designer called Michel Ancel made a game called Rayman for the Atari Jaguar, Playstation 1, Sega Saturn and PC at the age of 18 years old. Ubisoft decided to use Michel’s character as the mascot for Ubisoft. Alongside making Rayman 2 Michel Ancel made a game for the Nintendo 64 Tonic Trouble. This was done to test the 3D engine which was used for Rayman 2 because Ubisoft had never made a 3D game before.
Alongside being the creator of the Rayman franchise Michel made a game called Beyond Good and Evil for Playstation 2, Game Cube, Xbox, PC and several years later re-released on Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network as Beyond Good and Evil HD. He talked about the prototype for Rayman 1 in a french video game magazine. Michel also created a video game franchise for the Nintendo Wii in 2006 Michel made a game called Rayman Raving Rabbids. He recently made a level for the new Super Mario Maker game for the Wii U. |
