Named last christmas starring Jenna Coleman as the 12th doctor’s companion Clara Oswald along with a special guest, Nick Frost playing Santa Claus. I predict that in the latest christmas special airing on christmas day we will see the 12th Doctor regenerate into the 13th incarnation of the Doctor and we will see some past companions such as River Song return alongside the Doctor. However time can only tell... Firstly in my opinion the acting effectively portrayed the personalities of the comic book originals. The music included heavy metal helping immerse people into the emotion and action of the scenes. It also created a build up of the action to come. The special effects, including CGI were powerful in producing an immersion and suspense throughout the film. The camera work was good as it had such a variety of dimensions also created a strong connection into the vision and story line that I think the director want from the original. As the director made the viewers feel like they were part of the action. For example when Tony; Iron Man was testing out the suit he created a large variety of lighting, camera angles, as well as showing his imaging screen in the design process. However my critical feedback after watching the film was it had bad pacing. I felt it took too long to establish the characters with purpose, back story, and motive. This is in-comparison to Spiderman (2012) which took half the time to establish the characters with that connection to the viewer. In Spiderman it only took apx 3 scenes to establish the main character ‘ Peter Parker’ with role, motive & purpose. To explain more Ironman-s best friend; “Roadie” felt very one dimensional in this standalone version as again we had no real motivation & sense of connection. Whereas this is done very well in Batman with lots of intention and purpose with the Alfred butler character. Also despite the long establishment of the character Iron Man the first part; I felt didn’t get the viewers sympathy for the character even despite his weapons getting stolen. In comparison to both Spiderman & Batman where their parents get murdered it brings you that emotional impact and link to the viewer. So looking backafter seeing thr full series so far, the Iron Man as a standalone film didn’t work individually. I feel it needs the whole series. The ful series gives the viewer enough context, connection & compassion to engage with. So I have rated Iron man alone as 4/10. |
