Sam and I have come up with the idea for Mysterium, this is evident for it being published on several websites such as Facebook and Weebly and on our Mysterium Facebook group page and also our YouTube channel. This means we are entitled to this IP and all of the creative work that we have done so far towards Mysterium. If anyone tried to copy our idea we are able to begin legal proceedings against them because we have done this.
If Sam or I wanted to carry on making Mysterium without the other party we would have to sign an agreement giving the other permission to do so. Every Logo and design we have published we also own the rights to.

First of all I want to talk about The Wolf Among us. The game is a point-and-click mystery which is set in a fictional world called Fabletown, the story follows a character called Bigby as he goes round finding clues on a case concerning somebody or something that is attacking Fabletown and it’s civilians. Throughout the narrative, you have to talk to the residents of Fabletown to gather clues and locations on who the antagonist may be. This is similar to my game “Mysterium” due to the similar gameplay structure of point-and-click and the theme being mystery. Bigby's character in the “Wolf Among Us” is straight to the point, assertive and very serious; this is indicated through Bigby’s motive of finding who the culprit may be,his body language and his interactions when talking to the people of Fabletown. I think that Bigby’s character has a lot of similarities with the lead man in “Mysterium” Mr. Genius because even though fond of joking around, he puts his work first and jokes second. “The Wolf Among Us” is on several platforms (PS3, PS Vita, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, Android & iOS), each version of the game offers different methods of interacting with the world and the characters within it. “Mysterium” is played on YouTube, the reason I bring this up is because YouTube isn’t really used for gaming as many developers don’t see the potential of YouTube as a gaming platform, it’s primary use is to watch content instead of interacting with the viewer. So I’m hoping with me putting “Mysterium” on YouTube, it might change the landscape of gaming in the future. To close, my game may impact the gaming industry by using a platform well-known for watching and not playing.
Here's a range of concept art that I have developed over a few weeks for the website. This shows many designs/styles that were considered.
Five Nights at Freddy's Trailer - credit to IGN and creator Scott Coffin. This trailer builds up suspense because in the trailer they show glimpses of the anamatronic robots running down a corridor. Also, in the trailer, there is a sound of little children cheering that invokes joy and fear. From this trailer I have learnt to use very creepy imagery and sound effects to build up atmosphere and fear. The Last of Us TV Commercial - credit to Sony, Naughty Dog, video uploader PlayFemale GZ. This trailer relies heavily on isolation, very intense voice over and disturbing imagery. I think this might be good for our trailer because it uses voice over to great affect making the trailer seem real and very dark. The sound helped to accompany the grim environment. A long, long time ago… I was put into a group of three students to discuss a potential product, we all settled on a point and click horror game after watching some examples on YouTube of how the project could be constructed. We came up with some potential names during the planning stages, sadly I forgot some of them… However we have settled on the name ‘Mysterium’ as the name invokes an eery atmosphere.
I made a proposal outlining our product along with some key features and details, for example using YouTube as a gaming platform: because our product relies heavily on the point-and-click genre featured in the gaming industry. In order for us to achieve this we have set-up a YouTube channel dedicated to ‘Mysterium’ which will feature several videos which interconnect with each other, depending on your decision you will be transported to a video which either advance the story or end the game. At the moment, the only things that have been made are a logo, this was created on Photoshop using images from Google. The logo is red, using impact font and is bold, it lays on top of a transparent detective with a picture of SGS College WISE Campus: which is where the game is located. This location is suited to the game because of multiple choices of which way to go, many to interact with and clues to uncover. After a discussion between me and my fellow team members, we picked SGS College WISE Campus as a primary location because it was easily accessible to us as we are students at the college ourselves and know good locations to film. One team member, is managing the production side of the project. This includes getting equipment for filming, managing time schedules, writing a script, drawing storyboards all for our advert and game. We are thinking about using Final Cut Pro for editing the advert. At this time the YouTube channel is being developed but check out our website and our Facebook group for updates and information. Website Link (http://mysteriuminteractive.weebly.com/) Deadpool was released in 2016.
This movie is based on one of the funniest super heroes of all time. Set in the X-Men Cinematic universe, this movie shows the origins of Deadpool (again) a mercenary that doesn’t take things too seriously. After a previous movie which got his origins story so badly wrong, Deadpool strikes back. The movie sees Deadpool’s alterego Wayne Wilson as he does several jobs for people, throughout the movie he gets told by somebody that he has cancer. So he takes part in a program to make the cancer go away. Something happened… Because of this he makes a suit to track down the person responsible for his problem. Along the way he meets some X-Men characters. Who try and reason with him but he turns them down. (Would Deadpool get his revenge?) the movie has many callbacks and references to X-Men and Marvel with one of the most funniest Stan Lee cameos ever. This film stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool; from films such as Green Lantern, RIPD and X-Men Origins Wolverine. Ryan Reynolds performance as the title character is very natural with his line delivery and comedic timing. The film is also accompanied by Ed Skrein as Ajax, from such films as Transporter Refueled. His performance as the villain is very threatening and serious. The soundtrack helps to convey Deadpool’s sense of humour. The soundtrack is also used to good effect when it comes to building suspense, comedy and romance. Over in the States, this film is rated R and 15 in the UK. While due to some graphic scenes, violence and scenes of a sexual nature. Deadpool is made by 20th Century Fox in collaboration with Marvel; as the eighth installment in the X-Men film franchise. Ryan Reynolds, the actor of Deadpool, wanted to make this film for 11 years as X-Men Origins didn’t do so well and he is also very passionate about the character. He recently stated in an interview that he wanted to continue playing Deadpool until he died! I thought this movie was one of the most funniest movies ever. This movie reminds me of Bad Grandpa and Superbad. I think Ryan Reynolds does a brilliant job of selling the character’s personality. I also like that this film does not take itself too seriously and it knows it is a film. Deadpool is a very self aware character. it has fun because it pokes fun at other film genres. I give Deadpool 10 0ut of 10 MYSTERIUM is an interactive and immersive experience where the viewer takes the role of a detective as they embark on a dangerous mystery in a local college. The viewer can interview suspects and examine crime scenes. The game is played via several YouTube videos alongside a companion app.
Description of Content Our product will be delivered through a YouTube channel called ‘Mysterium’. This channel will contain several YouTube videos. The videos will be shot in first person, some will be interviews with questionable suspects and witnesses. Other parts will be 360 degree videos of the locations the crime could have happened in. This will deliver a deeper narrative because the viewer may advance the story in any way they want through clicking on interactive items to uncover objects and clues. Some videos may require this method to advance on to the next location. This is similar to Telltale Games series ‘The Walking Dead’ and an old point and click PC game ‘Sam and Max’. An app will be available in all stores e.g. the Google Play Store. The app will allow viewers to access all of the content on the YouTube channel. It will save your progress so you can continue when you are out and about. Google Cardboard is used to simulate the first person perspective. The game is played via Google Cardboard and a PC Mouse. The PC mouse will be use to interact with the world, objects and the camera. Good Cardboard will be used for the first person interviews and observing far away areas. For example, if there is a particular item that the player cannot see, they can put on the Good Cardboard which will enhance their vision and help them scope out the location. First person interview videos While interviewing a potential suspect some little dialogue boxes will appear so the viewer may choose what to ask next to the suspect. They will be given 2 options, for example they may want to ask if the suspect has any involvement with the crime. Plus who they are working with, if they have any information on the situation. Also to see if they have an opinion on who committed the act and if they have any alibis to rule them out. Locations The videos will take place at SGS College WISE Campus, each specific video will focus on one location, with clues and objects to help balance the story (similar to the Professor Layton series). Within each location there may be potential suspect to interview for information and clues leading up to the big reveal. This may influence different pathways which will lead to alternative endings and events. Story The main protagonist will be you the viewer. The viewer's job is to click the annotations and to identify who the suspect may be. The suspects will be people within the college environment ranging from students to staff members, this can help build up character motives, origin and personality. Video Each video is approximately a minute long, at the end of the video there will be two annotations to decide where the viewer would like to advance the story. The final video would be two minutes long which will reveal the culprit. Overall there will be six videos and in total the experience will last seven minutes. Promotional Adverts & Advert Plan The promos will be cross platform. We will create a promo using Final Cut Pro, this advert will contain teasers and a short explanation of what the videos will contain. We will also create a poster, this will be created using Photoshop; this will contain mystery elements like detectives and the characters in silhouettes. A dark atmosphere, filled with mysterious images, characters and settings. The colour pallet will consist mainly of dark colours such as red and black, this will be done to enforce the mysterious element of our virtual game. The adverts will be accompanied by atmospheric music, this will set the tone and the theme of the game. At the end of the advert, there will be two annotations; one where you can pre-order our product and one for a sneak peek. This advert will be displayed the Level 2 Media Facebook page and YouTube channel. I hope the method of advertising our project may be a huge investment for me and my teammate. Perhaps people would consider giving our virtual reality game a try, who knows some people may enjoy it. Release Date We are speculating for our project to be released in May/June 2020. Characters The main protagonist is the viewer and their name is ‘Mr or Miss Genius’. They are going to have a very cocky personality, similar to Sonic The Hedgehog. The victims will have very nervous and frightened personalities, they contact the viewer through an SOS message asking for help in solving the mystery. Suspect Number 1 is called, The Teacher; a very serious personality, they are very uptight. Number 2, the Lunch Lady, a very depressed person. Number 3, the Receptionist, elegant and has a joyful personality. Number 4, The Janitor, very isolated and strange. Number 5, The Student, laidback and chilled out. Number 6, The Counselor, very formal and determined. Target Audience The Primary audience for our product has been specified to be 16 - 25 year olds, the reason for this is because it contains graphic scenes which would not be suitable for younger players. Despite this all ages can play but anyone under 10 should have adult/guardian supervision. Our secondary audience would be parents/guardians as they could play with their children and still get enjoyment from the game. The ideal demographic that I feel might benefit from this mini experience would be ACORN categories. G Successful Suburbs J Starting Out K Student Life These three categories will be key for my 360 project as it will be based within a learning environment (a college) We would focus our advertising on these groups. Deadline We aim to finish this task by the 24th of February 2016. Approvals A group approval (Myself & Sam), staff members (Steve Mazillius, Scott Harrison, Matt Grinter and Tom Green) and fellow classmates. We will need the permission of any actors used in the making of the product. We would also need permission to film in the locations in the college. The artwork and design will be created by myself and Sam so whilst we will not need permission to use the work we should agree conditions before so we can protect our Intellectual Property. Unique Selling Point The USP of this game is that the player has full control over the story and events that occur and can experience the world of a detective immersively. |
